Mortgages and the Prosperity Gospel

There's an interesting article from TIME magazine here on the prosperity gospel and its connection with the current mortgage mess.

A few years ago, before I had heard of Joel Osteen, I saw him on TV. Whatever it was he was saying interested me, so I went and bought his book, I think it was Your Best Life Now. I'm not sure how far I got into it before I stopped and thought that it was ridiculous. He had, in my opinion, the same message as the article , if you just have enough faith you can get that big house that you always dreamed of, just stay possitive. God wants you to be successful. I think that it is so sad that people have let themselves be tricked into thinking that owning your own home and having lots of stuff is some how a right, and God just really wants us to be happy.
Anyway, that's just what I thought :)

You're right, Teresa. It is very sad to see people duped into thinking that if they just give their money to this televangelist or TV preacher that everything is going to be better. Or that if they'll just give their life to Jesus that He will bless you far beyond your wildest expectations. Funny how none of that nonsense is ever found in the Bible.
