MLB '09

If you are not a baseball fan, you can skip this post...

In less than a week, major league baseball players will begin reporting to spring training.  Here are a couple of blogs that I read regularly that you might enjoy...

Geoff Baker (Seattle Times)

Peter Abraham (It's a Yankees blog, but it's the best one I've seen)

The Mariners have overhauled their front office and coaching staff and have added a number of new players.  It will be interesting to see how this year plays out.  They can't really go anywhere but up, though.

I'm pretty sure that even if I were a total baseball fanatic I would have found this post boring...

Oh c'mon...you mean you weren't completely mesmerized by this post?

Nice try Al, I have seen that little radio in your pocket during the season.

Have you decided what baseball team you are rooting for? (Remember last year when you were trying to decide what team you should pick from....did you ever make a decision?)

Hi Rachael,

Yeah, other people have asked me about that. I grew up a California Angels fan (this was before they became the Anaheim Angels and then the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim--how ridiculous is that?). Well, I just can't bring myself to root for the Angels anymore, seeing as their entire coaching staff is comprised of former LA Dodgers (LA Dodgers to me=gravy, mayonnaise, & sausage). Plus, their name (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim) is just plain ridiculous.

That leaves a couple of options...

I like the Yankees, simply because they don't mind paying the money to put a good team on the field year after year. Plus, their arch-rival is the Boston Red Sox, a team that I can't stand. However, that's kind of a bandwagon choice. It's easy to root for the Yankees. They will always have the highest payroll and will almost always be in contention. And I don't like bandwagon fans.

That leaves the local team...the Seattle Mariners, who haven't been good for quite awhile. However, they have a far better GM than they had previously and a new manager who gets very high marks from those who know baseball.

So I will be rooting for 3 teams this year...

#1--The Mariners

#2--Whoever is playing the Dodgers

#3--Whoever is playing the Boston Red Sox
